Much of the new knowledge in situational crime prevention remains limited to universities and research institutes. A key aim of this network is to engage academics, safety experts, police officers and practitioners of different fields in knowledge creation, exchange, and diffusion by providing a one-stop information hub for situational crime prevention in Sweden.

Safeplaces is an interdisciplinary network that links local needs for knowledge in situational crime prevention to a national and international network of experts and institutions. The network has its basis at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden and,  with support from the National Council of Crime Prevention (BRÅ), creates a number of initiatives devoted to the improvement of local knowledge and information sharing about the conditions in which crime occur and the best ways to prevent it.
